Letter home to Mum |
Note that the letter is only marked "Tuesday" so the actual date may be a week earlier or later.
The source of the material from which this journal has been compiled is a small pocket diary in which brief entries were made daily throughout the writer’s short spell on active service in the British Army in 1917. The events and incidents, both trivial and tragic, and the names of those who shared in the writer's experiences are authentic.

Letter home to Mum and the family (17th August 1917) |
|
Letter to Ernie's Dad from his best friend Bradley (21st August 1917) Note that it was usual for those serving together to call each other by their last names, and so Bradley wasn't aware of Ernie's first names or how he was known by his family. |
